Where Did the Year Go?

Ever find yourself wondering, “Where did all the time go? And what do I have to show for it?”

Same here. And when those moments hit, I turn to a simple practice that helps ground me: I keep a running note on my phone where I document the milestones and moments that feel significant throughout the year.

Big things, little things— if it felt significant, it goes on the list.

Why I Keep This Note

For me, this note serves a few purposes:

1. Perspective in the Moment: I like having an easy way to see how much I’ve done, gotten through, and accomplished. And on the days when I’m wondering what I’m doing with my life, I find it particularly comforting and reassuring.

2. A Memory Keeper: These notes become little time capsules of moments I might’ve otherwise forgotten. They show me what was important to me at the time, remind me of things I’ve overcome or have been proud of, and they help illustrate how much I’ve grown and evolved.

How You Can Start

Here’s how to make it work:

• Open a Note: On your phone or in your journal, title it something simple like, “Year in Review.”

• Jot It Down: Anytime something feels meaningful—big or small—write it down. My own note appears as a simple list versus a journal with lots of commentary.

• Look Back: Use it when you need a little reassurance, a reminder of what you’ve accomplished or gotten through, or simply a written witness to a part of your life experience.

In a world that moves fast, this practice helps me connect, reflect, and appreciate my life experience.

With warmth,

Amy
