When Your Best Isn’t Good Enough
What can you do when your best simply isn’t good enough to get the results you want?
Life coach Brooke Castillo recently addressed this in a podcast of hers, and I loved her approach. She suggests starting by defining what your current “best” is by breaking it down into four categories. Define what your best is in terms of your:
1) skills
2) attitude
3) commitment
4) resilience
Once you’ve defined these, ask yourself: Why isn’t my best good enough right now? What would be required in each of these areas to achieve the result I want? How might I close the gaps? Answer as objectively as you can.
This framework provides direction by encouraging curiosity, intentionality, and a supportive mindset instead of self-criticism. Rather than thinking, “I’m not good enough,” you can ask yourself, “What isn’t working here? Where do I need to focus? How can I get the support and resources I need to succeed?”
Perhaps your best isn’t good enough—yet. However, with clarity and focus, you can move in the right direction.
I’d love to hear how this resonates with you. Where do you think your current best shines, and where might it have room to grow? As always, your reflections are welcome!
With warmth,
Amy
