Stop. Breathe. Add Something Good.

I recently found myself in a “figure everything out and solve all the things” spiral. I’ve been caught up in constant thinking, processing, deciding—and then, dissatisfied, feeling the need to rethink, reprocess, rework, and redecide. Basically, torturing myself.

I stumbled upon this quote by Rainbow Rowell:

“What if, instead of thinking about solving your whole life, you just think about adding additional good things. One at a time. Just let your pile of good things grow.”

The quote resonated with me instantly, but it wasn’t until yesterday that it dawned on me: this is precisely what I want to do right now.

I’m a big believer in getting to the root cause of things. In general, this approach serves me well—it helps me achieve, overcome, and live in alignment with my values. But sometimes? Trying to figure out what’s “off” only drags me deeper into the spiral, making things feel heavier and murkier rather than lighter and clearer.

The truth is, not everything can be figured out or solved right away—or sometimes, at all.

But when I think about simply adding good things to my life, things I know would uplift me no matter what, I feel myself exhale. Who can argue with the idea of adding more goodness?

This is my practice this week: loosening my grip on the need to solve and fix everything, and focusing instead on adding small, good things, one at a time.

With warmth,
Amy
